2023 Seeds Fund Recipient
In 2023, the Muungano Agricultural Cooperative was awarded two Seeds grants to enhance the prospects of their member producers. The first grant focuses on providing soy plants and comprehensive training for 200 members. Soy cultivation offers an array of undeniable advantages, ranging from its economic viability to its nutritional value and fertilizing properties. Introducing soy into their farming practices not only diversifies income streams but also serves as a strategic tool for optimizing coffee production. Through nitrogen fixation in the soil, intercropping soy enhances the quality and yield of coffee crops. Additionally, the stems and leaves of soy plants serve as natural mulch, enriching the soil and further supporting agricultural productivity. This initiative empowers families to cultivate soy for consumption or sale, augmenting their livelihoods and bolstering their resilience in the face of economic challenges.
Seeds Program
Counter Culture Coffee collects $0.01 from every pound of coffee sold to fund our Seeds program. Annually, $1 per pound of our winter coffee blend, Iridescent, goes to further increase our contribution. Seeds offers financial grants to producers and producer organizations we work with to implement sustainability projects they identify as beneficial. To date, we’ve allocated over $450,000 to Seeds projects.
